It's all for a good cause

The proceeds from the Gala Auction which was held in October 2010 will be donated to the chosen causes. 75% of the auction proceeds will be donated to our chosen charities - the Black Rhino Field Conservation Programme in Africa carried out by Chester Zoo, and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, a local Chester Charity.

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo's mission is: ‘To be a major force in conserving biodiversity world-wide’.

  • Chester Zoo has a global role in the conservation of Black Rhinos. It controls the breeding programme of these critically endangered animals across all European Zoos. It also has 10 Black Rhinos at the zoo including two calves.
  • Chester Zoo also directly supports Black Rhino conservation in the wild in Tsavo, Laikipia and Mkomazi in East Africa by funding Park rangers, buying vehicles, and research and community education amongst others. It works alongside other agencies such as ‘Save the Rhino International’ and the Kenya Wildlife Service.
  • By visiting the zoo you will be helping to conserve these fabulous creatures.
  • Most of the breeds at Chester Zoo are part of breeding programmes. These programmes help to manage species that are very close to extinction in the wild, and provides an ‘insurance’ population.

Hospice of the Good Shepherd

2010 is a significant year in the life of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd as we celebrate our 21st Anniversary of providing Specialist Palliative Care to the people of Western Cheshire, Chester and North Wales. From the first day until now the Hospice has enjoyed generous support from the community we serve. Hundreds of women and men over the years have volunteered their time and energy to work in the Hospice at Backford or in our shops and to them we owe an enormous debt of gratitude.

Equally important to the success of the Hospice is the fact that individuals, families, and local businesses, together with Western Cheshire Primary Care Trust, have provided the funding necessary to establish the Hospice as a centre of excellence in providing ‘dedicated care and support when you need it most.’ Year on year, through generous giving in donations, legacies, sponsorship and events, as well as subscriptions to our Hospice Lottery and purchasing in our shops, faithful financial support has been consistent, in good times and in bad, enabling the Hospice to weather the adverse economic climate of the day.

Please, therefore, accept our grateful thanks for your ongoing kind and generous support for the work of the Hospice.
